Information Management In Large Scale, Widely Distributed, and Collaborative Environments

Abstract
Aircraft design and production in a distributed computing environment,
rapid globalization of supplier and customer groups, and new business
opportunities, such as satellite-based information services to aircraft,
are but a few of the challenging application areas in which advanced
database and middleware technologies are needed.
In this presentation, I will discuss some of the technical requirements
and highlight potential solutions being explored in areas such
as distributed transaction processing, data integration architectures,
information dissemination, and broadcast managment.
Bio
Pamela Drew is manager of the Information and Document
Management Group in the Applied Research and Technology Division
of the Boeing Company. The charter of this group is to assess, apply,
and extend, when necessary, advanced information and collaborative
technologies to the Boeing environment. Previously, Dr. Drew was an assistant
professor in the Computer Science Department at Hong Kong University of
Science and Technology, and a member of technical staff in the research
laboratory of U S WEST Advanced Technologies. Concurrent to her work at
U S WEST, she completed her Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University
of Colorado, Boulder. She is author of over twenty-four papers and book
chapters on the topics such as advanced transaction managment and heterogeneous
databases. She has also served as program committee member and reviewer
on numerous database conferences and journals, and actively serves in
professional capacities organizing workshop and conference events.
