An indirect assignment may either precede or follow the calculation associated with the member involved. In the latter case it may overwrite values created by that calculation or change them with every subsequent iteration of the calculation. These problems have to be resolved.
If an assignment involves a dependency on other members or cells than the associated member and its children, it induces an alternative hierarchy, the dependency tree. This dependency tree is a graph much more complicated than the dimension hierarchies, as it may involve cross-dimensional dependencies. Resolution of these dependencies is critical to parallel processing.
