Open Standards, Open Source: A Move Towards Convergence

Abstract
Open Standards have been around for a long time and I recognize
industry force. Open Source is a recent industry phenomonen. Both
Open Source and Open Standards have weaknesses and strengths. The
argument of this presentation is by merging the two, a new and
powerful source for advancing industry can be achieved.
Biography
Carl Cargill is currently director for Standards at SUN Microsystems
and has held similar positions at Netscape and other companies. He is
an Editor of the ACM publication Standard View and has published
Information Technology Standardization: Theory, Process, and
Organizations; Digital Press, 1989.
