TITLE: Learning with the Crowd: Detection, Clustering and Teaching ABSTRACT: How can people and machines cooperate to gain insight into complex data sets? In this talk, I will highlight three recent projects in this space. 1) How can people and machines collaborate to detect rare objects in large image collections? 2) How can people cooperate with machines to identify categories in data sets? And 3) How can machines teach people to solve classification tasks? I will describe some of the technical challenges and approaches in Bayesian modeling and combinatorial optimization. I will further present results on several real-world applications, ranging from image categorization in citizen science to biodiversity monitoring via conservation drones.
