A database of images is very difficult to model in a traditional database sense because, depending on the application, the users may query on anything ranging from pixel values to semantic objects. The VIMSYS model was developed to span the different levels of information that a user may want access to.
The talk will describe an updated version of the VIMSYS model, and present the Virage Image Database System as an implementation of a subset of the VIMSYS model. It will also discuss approaches to querying formulation, feature indexing, and some extensions being carried out on the Vigage Engine. The talk will include a demonstration of the query capabilities of the Virage System over the Web.
