Some Aspects of Multidimensional Data Modelling and OLAP
Alex Russakovskii
Hyperion
Abstract
We will discuss some of the problems that the OLAP providers are
facing. In particular this involves data and metadata modelling
issues, sparsity issues, formula dependency analysis, appropriate
index structures, etc. The purpose of the talk is to identify
currently unresolved problems and discuss their possible solutions.
Biography
Alex Russakovskii is a principal software engineer at the Essbase OLAP
server department of Hyperion Solutions Corporation. He has PhD in
mathematics (multidimensional complex analysis). He has been pursuing
a scientific career simultaneously with work in software development.
He is the author of about 25 research papers in interpolation,
approximation, complex dynamics and has done some work on software
architecture, numerical methods and financial models. About two years
ago he joined the Essbase department where he has been involved in the
mathematical and modelling aspects of OLAP.
