Behind the Scenes at a Web Portal

Abstract
Millions of people go every day to web portals as starting points, and
increasingly as destinations, of their web surfing. What started as a
navigation aid has grown into a vast array of services and tools.
This talk will describe some of the technology that goes into
providing these services at Yahoo!, and the problems we will need to
solve to provide much better services in the future.
Biography
Udi Manber is chief scientist at Yahoo! Before joining Yahoo! in
1998, he was a professor of Computer Science at the University of
Arizona. He is the co-developer of, among others, Agrep, Glimpse, and
Harvest. He got a Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1995, and a
few best papers awards.
