Starting in the early 1990s, Paul Brown has worked exclusively for DBMS vendors with names starting with the letter 'I': Ingres, Illustra, Informix and now IBM. He also spent three years working with Postgres at UC Berkeley. He has written two books on Object-Relational DBMS topics, and has contributed several research papers and book chapters to the literature. At Informix he was a member of the 'Architecture Review Board'. At IBM he works for the Database Research Group under Hamid Pirahesh. His research interests include systems availability, and the integration of DBMS and 'middle-ware' functionality.
