TITLE: People, Data, and Computing ABSTRACT: I will present several studies that demonstrate how we can leverage logs of human activities for prediction, inference, and problem solving. First, I will focus on harnessing logs of peoples’ activities on a citizen science challenge to learn how to ideally couple human and computational effort. Then, I will focus on a case study of inferences drawn from logs of cell-tower call densities. I will then move to projects in public health, showing how search logs and social media can be used as large-scale sensors. Finally, I will present recent efforts on crowdphysics, on leveraging data people share about their locations over time to perform coordinated physical tasks in the world.
