Janet presented a simple cost model for comparing our incremental view
maintenance algorithm with recomputation. The method models I/O cost
only: it assumes 1 unit of cost for each database object access and no
cost for any other operations. Under this model, cost expressions are
developed for recomputation as well as evaluating one query generated
by the maintenance algorithm.

In the next meeting, Janet will provide cost expressions for a few other 
types of queries generated by the view maintenance algorithm. Then we can
try to find out the dominating parameters in those expressions and run
some simple simulations.
