Army of Darkness
(1993)
Synopsis
Bound in human flesh, inked in blood - and amazingly hard to pronounce - the ancient ""Necronomicon"" (Book of the Dead) unleashes unspeakable evil upon mankind in director Sam Raimi's (Darkman) outrageously hilarious sword-and-sorcery epic.
Back to do battle with the hideous ""Deadites,"" Bruce Campbell reprises his role from the Evil Dead series as Ash, the handsome, shotgun-toting, chainsaw-armed department store clerk from S-Mart's housewares division. Demonic forces time warp him - and his '73 Oldsmobile - into England's Dark Ages, where he romances a beauty (Embeth Davidtz) and faces legions of undead beasts, including a ghastly army of skeletons. Can Ash save the living from the evil dead, rescue his girlfriend, and get back to his own time?
Overflowing with spectacular special effects, Army of Darkness will make you scream with fear and laughter. In the words of The Washington Post, it's ""drop-dead fun!""

About the DVD: This is a great looking and sounding DVD - in fact, this is the best
looking version available of the film. Why Universal would not
release this as Special Edition when they do so with such minor
achievements like Street Fighter is beyond my understanding.
This is a fascinating, complicated film that was put together with lots
of spit, glue, and tape, and all of it looks great. The production story
is present in a limited way in the production notes, but the film
deserves a commentary and a documentary. The film also deserves the alternate
scenes, especially the different endings for which it is famous.
Instead, we have this straight-high quality-transfer with the trailer
and the cast and production notes. We wait for a Special Edition.
Cast: Bruce Campbell, Embeth Davidtz

Netflix Review
Intended as an elaborate edition in the cult hit series Evil Dead, Sam
Raimi's Army of Darkness continues in a big way his exploration of the
evil dead with his fantastic mix of humor and gore. Darkness is not
parody, but it's not straight either. The actor's attitude to the
material is in the ... Complete Review

If I had 12 bucks and a camera, this is the movie I would make, the quintessential guy movie. Warning: ANY MOVIE STARRING BRUCE CAMPBELL IS NOT SUITABLE FOR A FIRST DATE. While you are rolling on the floor, stuffing your guts back in from laughing so hard, your date will be inching steadily AWAY ... Complete Review

Army of Darkness is the best of the three in the series. I suggest this one first, Evil Dead II second, and skip the first one entirely. This movie is filled with great lines: "When things are at their darkest, pal, it takes a brave man to kick back and party." "All right you primitive ... Complete Review

If Adam Corrola and Jimmy Kimmel were in charge of the Oscars, Army of Darkness would have made a clean sweep of all Awards. This is quite possibly one of the greatest movies of all time. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not comparing this movie to such greats as The Godfather I&II or Full Metal ... Complete Review

lame, might as well have been a cartoon. Plot was bad and not even remotely realistic.

I hadn't seen this movie in many, many years. I fiqured I'd give it a try again since it had received fairly good marks on DD 5.1 SS. Well it was redone fairly well, decent low end @ times, dialog had a good tonal balance.
With that being said, this is a teen movie with all the macho man jokes ... Complete Review
