The Mask of Zorro
(1998)
Synopsis
The story of an aging blade (Anthony Hopkins) passing along his wisdom and his edge to an angry young thief (Antonio Banderas). The young Zorro learns about politics, love, and war, at the feet of his teacher. His quest for personal revenge gives fire to his role as Colonial Mexico's most swashbuckling activist, one who must fight for his country and his woman (the ravishing newcomer Catherine Zeta-Jones, also quite handy with a sword). 'A gift from the movie gods!' --Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal. 'This is one crowd-pleaser that actually pleases!' --David Ansen, Newsweek.

About the DVD: The 2.35:1 widescreen transfer is anamorphic. Ironically, for a movie set in Mexico, the only soundtrack option is English (either Dolby Digital 5.1 or 2.0 Surround). English subtitles are the only caption option. Extras include a making-of featurette and a photo gallery.
Cast: Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Stuart Wilson

Netflix Review
It's easy to mistake The Mask of Zorro for a studio-system swashbuckler from the 1940s: The movie features a hero with a secret identity, a lovely damsel in distress and a ruthless villain who causes great suffering with offhanded indifference. Although the film takes an unfortunate modern turn ... Complete Review

One of the best movies I have seen for years! Lots of action, humor and romance. It is the traditional Zorro story, but with excellent actors and storyline. I would highly recommend it. An added bonus is there is not one curse word in it, so you won't be wasting your money to sit and listen to ... Complete Review

This movie was surprisingly good. I'm not a big fan of Antonio Banderas, but the wonderful Anthony Hopkins and the gorgeous Catherine Zeta-Jones more than make up for him. The action scenes were good and the story simple. Thumbs up.

Great story, great cast, great everything. An absolutely must see, and even a must own. Two heros (Zorros') and a stunning Zeta-Jones.

Banderas and Hopkins made this an excellent movie. Lots of action, humor, and some mystery.
I didn't want to watch this movie at first, but thoroughly enjoyed it and have seen it multiple times since.

I loved it, I loved it, I loved it. The story was good, the action was good. The characters were exciting to watch. The only thing that could have made it better would be to make it longer. If you like action movies that are not constant shoot 'em up, you will like this. Very little gore or ... Complete Review

Not being an Banderas fan to begin with, found his performance along with Hopkins and Zeta-Jones to be top notch and actually fun to watch. The movie surprised my wife and I for being entertaining without any dropouts--in otherwords, it fit together well.
