Running Out of Time
(1999)
An zhan
Synopsis
Acclaimed director Johnny To (The Heroic Trio, Lifeline) scores again with this mind-boggling action thriller starring pop superstar Andy Lau and Lau Ching Wan that became one of Hong Kong’s biggest box office hit in 1999. Told by his doctor that he only has two weeks to live. Wah (Lau) decides to take on the entire Hong Kong Police for the next 72 hours, pulling off a spectacular jewelry heist and keeping the cops on their toes with his flair for choosing hostages off the streets. Only Sang, a cool, analytical police negotiator (Lan Ching Wan) can see through Wah’s agenda and stop him from carrying out his secret mission – or can he? Visually dazzling, nail-bitingly intense, and with great performances from both leads, Running Out Of Time is pure bravura filmmaking, right up to its knockout surprise ending.

Not really into the typical HK action films. This film has a great story, script and acting. More than just an action story, its about a cat and mouse game between the thief and the cop and how the line between them can fade when the circumstances change.

Superb movie. Great story with characters one can care about. A few twists keeps the tension alive. Could have been longer but keeping it short makes this a must see movie.

There was a lot of action, good plot, good acting, and even though there were sub'titles I enjoyed the movie.

I must have watched the wrong movie from all the people who gave good reviews. This is not a good movie to rent. The dramatic sounds coming out of my subwoofer is so loud that you couldn't even hear the dialogs for most of the movie. It is very annoying and if you have a good speaker system ... Complete Review

One of those Chineese films you can barely remember a day later. The plot is a bit confused but better than average.
