Synopsis

Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) is reluctantly swept into the American Revolution when the war reaches his farm and the British endanger what he cherishes most. He takes up arms alongside his idealistic patriot son, Gabriel, and leads a rebel American Militia into battle against a relentless and overwhelming Redcoat army. In the process, he discovers that the only way to protect his family is to fight for a young nation's liberty. But his dark past haunts him.

When the government puts all its rotten criminal eggs in one airborne basket, it's asking for trouble. Before you can say, "Pass the barf bag," the crooks control the plane, led by creepy Cyrus "The Virus" Grissom (John Malkovich). Watching his every move is the just-released Nicolas Cage, who'd rather reunite with his family. The action climaxes with an incredible crash sequence in Las Vegas.

Netflix Review

   Leonard Maltin
The Patriot is a big, sprawling, old-fashioned Hollywood historical epic, the kind we rarely see anymore. It's the type of movie that transports its audience to another time and place (South Carolina, during the war for American independence in 1776) and makes that period come alive. And it has a ...

This movie was a total surprise. I rented it for my husband and thought oh this looks like a "guy" flick. But, it wasn't at all. It was drama, suspense, action, romance and with Mel Gibson...there has to be a little comedy. This was one of the best movies I've ever seen!

Incredible movie...a bit bloody, but very realistic. Strong emotional swings...one minute you're laughing, the next minute your're crying. Makes a person think about what our ancestors had to go thru to gain their freedom. Truly makes one proud to be an American. 5+ Stars.

Trying to bring Braveheart to the American Revolution falls flat; even after 9/11, the smarmy overdone patriotism of this film doesn't ring true. Absolutely awful dialogue, there are scenes which will make ... Complete Review
