The Avengers '66 Set #1: Volume 2
Tongue-in-cheek archness hit its apex with this vintage television series about two iconoclastic British superspies. Diana Rigg is delicious as Mrs. Emma Peel -- cool, sophisticated and formidable -- and John Steed (Patrick Macnee) is implacably droll whether wielding his lethal bumbershoot or sipping a dry martini. The wonderful brio they shared has seldom been equaled among crime-fighting duos -- on either side of the Big Pond.

Fail Safe captures the fear, distrust and paranoia that was rampant in the early 60's with a stark, intense portrayal of sophisticated technology gone wrong. It's a thought-provoking story that builds in suspense until the final moment, with an ending that isn't what we have come to expect out of ... Complete Review

Unlike the FX-driven movies of today, this early '60s B&W suspense flick relies on the plot to hold your attention, and it does that very well. If the truth were known, we probably had more close calls to nuclear war, as presented in this film, then we will ever know. Very suspenseful and gripping ... Complete Review

This is one of the better movies I have seen. Although in 1964 they didn't have much in the way of special affects, it doesn't hurt this movie. The movie has an amazing idea when compared to movies of today, Actors that can actually act. The actors' performances blew me away.

Awesome for 1964. Great to see today's "old" stars when they were young. Challenging theme of human thought and emotion of the logic of technology.

It was an excellent reminder of how we as a people once viewed Russia as an enemy. Great movie.
