Willow
(1988)
Synopsis
A dwarfish "Nelwyn" named Willow finds a baby adrift in a river and must protect it from an evil queen (Jean Marsh) bent on its destruction. Along with studly Madmartigan (Val Kilmer), Willow battles dragons and vanquishes evildoers, all the while shielding the infant from harm. Taken for what it is, the movie's a tribute of sorts to another film starring a diminutive hero, Lord of the Rings.

George Lucas's Willow is one of his most anticipated releases. Long out of print, it is a sleeper hit with a large underground following. I'd venture to say this is the best fantasy movie ever made. Willow was a bit of a proving ground for Lucas to try ideas he later polished in Star ... Complete Review

With talent such as George Lucas and Ron Howard involved, a film like Willow can't go wrong. Possessing all the elements of a good fair tale fantasy including a rogue hero, a lovely damnsel in distress and sentimental pint sized protagonists, Willow is a rousing and entertaining joust fit for the ... If you like fantasy, action, humor, beautiful landscapes, and a little romance, Willow is an excellent choice. It's fun to see the escalation of character size (Brownies to Nelwyns to Daikinis to the mutated Troll); watch for Kevin Pollack (The Usual Suspects; Casino) to deliver smart one-liners ... Action and adventure with a good dose of light-hearted fun. This movie has a great story and good acting as well. The special effects look a little dated but they should because they are! I think the London Symphony Orchestra did the soundtrack and the ... Complete Review

Good entertainment for the grandparents as well as the 7 year old granddaughter. It was also nice to see a small adult person starring in a movie.
