The Mummy Returns
(2001)
Synopsis
The Mummy Returns is set in 1935, 10 years after the events of the first film. Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) is now married to Evelyn (Rachel Weisz), and the couple has settled in London, where they are raising their 9-year-old son Alex (played by screen newcomer Freddie Boath).
When a chain of events finds the corpse of Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo) resurrected in the British Museum, the mummy Imhotep walks the earth once more, determined to fulfill his quest for immortality. But another force has also been set loose on the world... one born of the darkest rituals of ancient Egyptian mysticism, and even more powerful than Imhotep. When these two forces clash, the fate of the world will hang in the balance, sending the O'Connells on a desperate race to save the world from unspeakable evil, and rescue their son before it is too late.

The Mummy
You'll want your mummy when you spin this action-packed thriller from Universal Studios (the dream factory that produced the 1932 original). This remake joins the Indiana Jones series in the pantheon of great adventure flix. With strong performances by Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, and a treasure trove of extras -- including a primer on Egyptian mythology -- The Mummy is a scream.

Jurassic Park III
More like "Your-ass-kicked" Park! Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant returns to the infamous Isla Sorna, this time in the company of William H. Macy and Téa Leoni (two parents on the trail of their son who disappeared on the island). It isn't long before all hell breaks loose and the stranded wayfarers are literally up a creek without a paddle. Beware the Terror-dactyls!

Tomb Raider
Talk about typecasting! Angelina Jolie as the English aristocrat Lara Croft who moonlights as a "tomb raider" was an inspired notion. Skilled in hand-to-hand combat and packing more weapons than a SWAT team, the curvaceous Lara battles a secret society called the Illuminati, which possesses a gizmo that could control time as we know it. Jon Voight appears in ghostly flashbacks as her dear, departed pater.

Rush Hour 2
Opposites attract once again in this sequel to the box office blockbuster Rush Hour. Martial arts star Jackie Chan is a fine foil for the disdainful dish meted out by comedian Chris Tucker. Together, they reprise their roles as buddy cops on vacation in Hong Kong. But their R&R is cut short when an explosion kills two custom agents and Chan and Tucker are put on the case.

Netflix Review
I'm not a big fan of return engagements. Outside of a few flicks you can count on the fingers of one hand (The Godfather: Part II, Terminator 2: Judgment Day), most sequels pale in comparison to the original. Worse yet, they often demean the prior effort in a sort of smear-factor ... Complete Review

The storyline is great. HOWEVER, when will the studios realize that 99% of DVD owners own DVD's because of the LETTERBOX or WIDESCREEN format. What a dis-service to present this movie in full screen format, so much is lost. Also a 'play all' option would have been nice for the feature section! ... Complete Review

Where was the widescreen version that the graphic of the DVD promised? I could not watch this disc. I didn't put in a ten foot screen to see the sides of the movie chopped off.

This movie should have stayed dead. The special effects could not save this dog. I guess I found out what the Rock had cookin'...nothin'!

Not as good as the original (like most sequels) but still fun and entertaining. The director relied a little too much on the special effects but overall an enjoyable, fun spectacle. Although the DVD serves as a big promotional vehicle for the spin-off, 'The Scorpion King'...

This movie is not as thrilling as the Mummy because we already knew the characters and didn't like to that extent
