At the edge of the world, his journey begins.

In Cast Away, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis and two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks reunite to explore the blessings and heartache of fate and the survival of the human spirit.

Hanks stars as Chuck Noland, a FedEx systems engineer whose personal and professional life are ruled by the clock. His fast-paced career takes him, often at a moment's notice, to far-flung locales -and away from his girlfriend Kelly, played by Helen Hunt.

Chuck's manic existence abruptly ends when, after a plane crash, he becomes isolated on a remote island - cast away into the most desolate environment imaginable. Stripped of the conveniences of everyday life, he first must meet the basic needs of survival, including water, food and shelter. Chuck, the consummate problem solver, eventually figures out how to sustain himself physically. But then what? Chuck begins his true personal journey.

After four years, fate gives Chuck a chance to fight his way back to civilization, only to find an unexpected emotional challenge greater than all the earlier physical ones. His ability to persevere and to hope are a product of his life-changing experience. Though the conclusion of Chuck's story may not be a conventional Hollywood ending, it is, like life, full of truth, pain and promise.

The special effects alone are worth the time to watch this movie. Hanks does a great job, yet again, so versital. True to the psychological affects a crash of this magnatude would have on the human psychi. It was fascinating, I was riveted to my seat through the entire movie. It has it all, ... Complete Review

This is truly Tom Hanks at his best. For someone to play a part in a movie and be the only actor on the screen, speaking minimal lines, you know just what he is feeling and thinking. A great tribute to the man. He can really act. Wonderful movie. If you like Tom Hanks, you will love this movie.

The first and last 15 minutes are a waste but the rest of the movie is outstanding. That Hanks could carry the movie saying only a few words for 2 hours really speaks volumes about his acting ability. The plane crash, the abscessed tooth, the relationship with Wilson, and countless other scenes, ... Complete Review

Movie was long and had its points where it seemed to drag out the story line. The ending could have been better

Just a warning - don't listen to the commentary unless you want to know every detail about the fake sound, fake waves, fake wind and fake trees. If you are a sound, light or computer graphic engineer you might find this minutia fascinting, otherwise, keep the movie fantasy intact and skip the ... Complete Review

Enjoyable movie. Hanks again turned in a great performance. Too bad though that so much of the movie is without Helen Hunt. It is worth viewing.
