The X-Files: Fight the Future
(1998)
X-Files: The Movie
Synopsis
Thirty-seven thousand years ago, a deadly secret was buried in a cave in Texas. Now the secret has been unleashed. And its discovery may mean the end of all humanity.
"The plague to end all plagues..." When a terrorist bomb destroys a building in Dallas, Texas, FBI Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) are drawn into a dangerous conspiracy surpassing anything they've ever encountered. With the dubious assistance of a paranoid doctor (Academy Award winner Martin Landau), Mulder and Scully risk their careers and their lives to hunt down a deadly virus which may be extraterrestrial in origin, and could destroy life on earth. Their pursuit of the truth pits them against the mysterious Syndicate, powerful men who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets safe, leading the agents from a cave in Texas, to the halls of the FBI and finally to a secret installation in Antarctica which holds the greatest secret of them all.

About the DVD: A very nicely put-together disc. The film is only in widescreen, which is great -- wasn't the whole point of the exercise to see Mulder and Scully in 1.85:1 as opposed to the 1.33:1 you see them in every week? There's great sound (THX-certified Dolby 5.1 and 2.0 for English with French 2.0), and the English and Spanish subs are nice -- even if Fox's subtitler doesn't seem to know that you "defuse" a bomb, you don't "diffuse" it. On an extras level, the commentary by X-Files creator and screenwriter Chris Carter and director Rob Bowman is OK, while the featurette is an interesting behind-the-scenes look. The DVD also includes the three original theatrical trailers, which are terrific -- exciting without being too revealing, enigmatic without being obscure.
Cast: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Martin Landau, William B. Davis, John Neville, Mitch Pileggi, Blythe Danner, Armin Mueller-Stahl

Alien 3
Sigourney Weaver crashes onto a planet full of dangerous prisoners. But bad as they are, Weaver faces even more trouble … because an old friend is coming for dinner. With kick-ass direction from David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club), a terrific cast (including Charles Dutton, Pete Postlethwaite and Lance Henriksen) and a 23-minute making-of featurette, Alien 3 is a hot ticket.

Netflix Review
Bearing in mind that I've maybe watched one episode of the X-Files, and have no emotional investment in Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) (or, as I wind up calling them on occasion, "Sculder") I was awestruck by how much I enjoyed the X-Files movie. The film starts with a bang, ... Complete Review

O.K. So everyone knows I love Duchovny. But, I am also an X-phile. Have been since the first episode. My husband, however, never watched the show, before we watched this movie together. He understood the movie fine, and is now an X-phile himself. You don't have to watch the show to love this ... Complete Review

This played like a subpar mytharc episode mixed with Alien.
Considering the script wasn't even completed upon shooting of the film, its no wonder the story was badly written.
After seeing the film, it was clear that FOX and 1013 were no longer interested in writing innovative and exciting ... Complete Review

I've been an avid X-Files fan since its inception, and I was disappointed with this movie. As was the pattern in the series before the movie, you were left with more questions asked than answered, and it was just getting tiresome. The movie moved quite slowly, and I ended up not really ... This is a great work by Chris Carter! Duchevney, and Anderson are great, and makes the movie great. I have seen this several times, and would watch it again. (I can because I own it!) A must see and addition to your collection.

Chris Carter continues in the film, what he's been doing with the series. Always adding surprises along the way, bringing back the past, giving you clues and then taking them away. The film does the series justice. For those who've only seen the movie, it will be funny and exciting. For those who ... Complete Review

There was really nothing that seperated the movie from the tv show. That may sound good, but it felt like I was just watching a really long episode from TV. No Movie quality about it and the plot was confusing and ended with zero answers.
