DCG will give the highest level of support to HP, SGI, and Sun Solaris. There will be an expert in each of these systems. DCG will distribute the current versions of the systems software and academic bundles. HP and Sun Solaris will become the preferred platforms for much of the software licenses from third-party vendors.
DCG will give only some support for AIX, DEC OSF/1, and SunOS. DCG will distribute the current versions of the systems software and academic bundles. There will be no expert tasked to these systems. There may be no third-party software available.
DCG will get out of the business of VMS and Ultrix. No systems software and no academic bundles will be provided.
Linux will be encouraged but not supported. Many of the employees of DCG have Linux boxes, and I expect, between my employees and the CS department, that there will be a grass roots effort to make this a major system. DCG will provide encouragement for this to happen.
