Traditional Engineering

Before I get started with describing DCG, I would like to describe the difference between a traditional engineering organization and a Neoma.

Traditional engineering is decompositional in nature. To understand the whole you break it into the parts. You then master the parts, put them back together again, and you are now a master of the whole.

A good example of traditional engineering is a car. Break the car down into its parts such as the steering sub-system, the transmission, the engine, the brakes, and many more sub-systems. If you master each of these sub-systems, you have mastered the car. The whole, in this case, the car, is completely mastered by examining the parts in isolation and then looking at their combination to form the whole.
