GecoPod: Hybrid paper/electronic field census tool

Census personnel tap on images or bird banding codes. Underlying ANOTO pattern identifies tapping location. The location is transmitted to EcoPod, where the count is registered. Tapping can also position EcoPod on a particular species for detailed analysis.

ANOTO patterned interface allows fast, familiar bird identification process. Bluetooth connection communicates with electronic field guide for tallying, detailed character lookup, and additional images.

PDA based EcoPod solicits character states (attribute/value pairs), and identifies observed species. The tool can be used with a stylus or operated remotely from a GigaPrint interface.
