Introduction to Databases
Programming Assignment 1 Questions and Answers
- You may find information about most Oracle error codes (and how to fix them!) by doing a quick search on http://groups.google.com. Generally, you can just copy and paste your error code directly into the search box to find the information you need to resolve your issue.
- If you're getting "space quota exceeded" errors, use the following commands to check your existing indexes and tables, and drop those that you do not need for now (you can always reload them later):
select index_name from user_indexes;
select table_name from user_tables;
- To simplify your life and reduce confusion, ignore the "Quantity" field for PA1 and the rest of the project. You don't have to create this field in your database, and your XML parser can simply ignore this field.
- It is just fine to have a NULL user rating.
- Make sure you use VARCHAR for strings instead of CHAR!
- To get the Description field accepted by Oracle, simply truncate the string before outputing it to a file (or you can do anything that works). Here's how to get the truncated string:
Description.substring(0, Math.min(4000, Description.length()))
