Abstract

Mediators built on top of heterogeneous data sources need to process queries in a manner that is sensitive to the limited query-processing capabilities of sources. Otherwise, they run the risk of generating query plans that are infeasible as they issue queries to sources that are not answerable by the source. In the TSIMMIS project, we represent the capabilities of sources by sets of query templates. In this paper, we will describe how TSIMMIS mediators take into consideration the template sets of the sources when they process queries on integrated views defined over these sources.
