RESEARCH PROJECTS

Gryphon

In summer 2002, I worked with Dr. Rob Strom on the design and development of the next-generation messaging system in the Advanced Messaging Group at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, Hawthorne, NY. The new system extends the current content-based pub/sub with monotonic relational subscription. Monotonic relational subscriptions are continuous queries for timely updated summaries of the information in one or more published event streams. This work brings together previous work on event distribution system and continuous queries over data streams. Our work is summarized in a paper appearing in the second DEBS workshop. In summer 2003, I worked on a different aspect of the relational subscription system - the design and prototype of an efficient fault-tolerance protocol in case of machine or link failures. A patent is filed after the second summer.

OntoAgents

From 2001 to 2003, I worked on the OntoAgents project in the DARPA DAML program at Stanford InfoLab. I designed and developed a system called OntoWebber under the guidance of Dr. Stefan Decker and Prof. Gio Wiederhold. The OntoWebber system provides a methodology and a development environment to facilitate the creation, generation and maintenance of Web sites. In another project, Juan Fernando and I wrote a program called Xlint to perform error-tolerant parsing of large XML documents.

Barehands

In 2000, I worked with Prof. Terry Winograd in the Interactive Workspace project. Using image-processing and machine learning techniques, I developed a prototype system which can recognize and use a set of distinct hand postures to augment user interaction with the smart-board.
