Tree of Students

for Gio Wiederhold

updated 25 March 2003, ancestors updated Nov. 2008.
At Stanford since December 1965 (lecturer, director Medical School Computing facility), September 1976 (regular faculty), September 1982 (research faculty, jointly with Medicine), July 2001 (Emeritus).
For more student information see the List of Gio's students.

Gio obtained his PhD at UC San Francisco in 1976. Gio's advisor was John Starkweather, the designer of the Pilot language to create learning scripts. Extensive information about further advisors and mentors is maintained on-line. An easier to peruse version, in reverse chronological order is also available. The academic ancestors includes Galilleo, Hermannn von Helmholtz (Treatise on the conservation of energy and inventor of the ophtalmoscope, 1821-1894). One of the students of Helmholtz was Albert A. Michelson, the first American Nobel laureate, 1907. The mentor tree includes Hermann Boerhaave (twice), a most influential physician of the 15th century, and even Saint Dominic. The list also expands on some Stanford University connections, as David Starr Jordan and Lewis M. Terman.
